A large and impressive bronze bust of Bacchante, the Greek Goddess of Wine, by sculptor Jean Baptiste Clésinger (1814-1883), commonly known as Auguste Clésinger.

Clésinger was a sculptor and painter who studied with his father. He entered the studio of the Danish neoclassical artist Thorvaldsen, a pupil of Canova, in Rome, 1832. He returned to Paris in 1838 and again in 1845, the year 1837 marked his first success at the Salon, with a marble statue entitled "Femme piquée par un serpent," currently exhibited at the Musée d'Orsay.
